Check the fit over your other layers
- Measure your chest at the point specified in the size guide.
- Allow for the thickest top you plan to wear when choosing a size.
- Fasten the vest, raise your arms and reach forwards; the hem and armholes should not unnecessarily restrict movement.
- Check whether the vest feels bulky when sitting or wearing another garment over it.
Compare pockets for practical use
Do more than count the pockets. Check their shape, fastening and position: flat items need a different opening from larger accessories, and an easily accessible chest pocket serves a different purpose from a side-entry pocket. Heavy objects also affect the fit; follow the usage guidance for the specific vest.
Vest or jacket?
A vest leaves your arms free and works as an extra layer around your torso. A jacket also covers your arms, with cuffs and potentially additional pockets. Weather protection or protective performance cannot be inferred from the garment's design alone.
