Work jackets

A work jacket should fit over the layers you plan to wear underneath and allow your usual movements. Compare shoulder width, body length, sleeves and pockets before focusing on material names or appearance.

Check the fit during work movements

  1. Put on the thickest layer you plan to wear underneath, or allow for it in your measurements.
  2. Fasten the jacket fully and move your arms forwards and above shoulder height.
  3. Sit down and check whether the hem, collar or pockets press uncomfortably.
  4. Try placing tools or personal items in the pockets you intend to use.

Shorter or longer cut?

A shorter cut can reduce bulk around the hips; a longer cut covers more of the torso. Check both styles with your trousers and usual working posture. The right length depends on your work and body measurements, rather than a general rule.

Assess cuffs, hems and pockets carefully

Adjustable cuffs or hems can help tailor the fit. Make sure you can operate them while wearing your usual equipment. Compare pocket openings, fastenings and positions, rather than just the number of pockets. Any specific weather protection or protective features must be explicitly documented for the model.
