Cleaning gloves

For cleaning tasks, the specific work step determines the hand protection needed. Preparing a solution from a concentrate, using a diluted solution and then cleaning equipment are not automatically the same application. Identify the substance and concentration for each step before comparing gloves.

Break the workflow down by type of contact

  • Measuring out the product may involve contact with the undiluted substance. Evidence for the ready-to-use dilution does not automatically confirm suitability for the concentrate.
  • When wiping and wringing out, the areas actually exposed to liquid matter. Length and cuff design must suit the intended process; liquid must not enter through the opening.
  • When moving on to clean surfaces, the outside of a glove may already be contaminated. Plan replacements and a removal procedure that avoids skin contact with the contaminated outer surface.

Selection example

A cleaning solution needs to be prepared from a concentrate and then applied. If the glove data covers only the diluted solution, it addresses only that part of the selection. Measuring out the concentrate requires a glove that is also suitable for that step, or a procedure that avoids the relevant contact. Do not choose a single pair for both steps solely for convenience.

Chemical protection is assessed for the specific substance. A mechanical EN-388 rating or the description household glove does not replace it. Laboratory breakthrough times cannot be directly applied as wear times; determine when to replace gloves from the information for the actual use.
