Pressure hoses

A pressure hose is selected as an assembly of hose, fittings and seals. Every part must suit the medium, maximum system pressure and temperature. Approval of an individual component does not automatically apply to the entire line.

Establish four shared limits

Limit Comparison Exclusion rule
Medium Check the hose lining, fittings and seals for compatibility with the exact medium If any component lacks compatibility, rule out the assembly.
Pressure Compare the published working pressures of all components with the maximum system pressure The lowest permitted working pressure limits the assembly.
Temperature Check medium and ambient temperatures against the hose, fitting and seal specifications Only the range permitted for all components may be used.
Ends Record the connection type, size, sealing method and intended assembly method Matching diameters do not establish a complete connection.

Example: replacing an existing line

Note the exact medium, maximum system pressure, temperature range, length and both mating connections. If the hose has a suitable working pressure but a fitting has a lower permitted rating, the higher hose rating does not apply to the assembly. Compare only combinations for which every point is documented.

The Parker Safety Guide requires pressure, temperature, media compatibility, hose and fittings to be assessed together, and also requires short pressure spikes to remain within the published working pressure.
