When choosing household and decorative items, start with the space where they will be displayed. Measure the available area, decide on the effect you want and check how the material and shape fit into the existing surroundings. For practical household tasks, visit Household supplies.

Check the footprint and appearance together

  1. Measure the space: Record the width, depth and height of the available area. Doors, windows and walkways must remain usable.
  2. Decide on the viewing angle: Consider the direction from which the item will mainly be seen and whether both front and back will be visible.
  3. Compare proportions: Do not confuse external dimensions with usable internal space. For containers, also check the insert and drainage arrangement of the specific version.
  4. Plan for care: Check the surface and manufacturer's instructions against the intended location and regular cleaning routine.

Example: a container on a narrow windowsill

Measure not only the length of the windowsill, but also its depth and the clearance to the opening window. A wide container may look right yet still obstruct the window. Then compare external dimensions, footprint and, where relevant, the planting space needed under Flower pots and planters.

Decoration or a practical task?

This page helps you consider design, available space and proportions. If an everyday function such as cleaning or organising is your priority, Household supplies will guide you to the right selection. The category name does not establish suitability for food contact, damp rooms or outdoor areas; refer to the specifications of the version you choose.
