| Feature | What to compare | Effect on your choice |
|---|---|---|
| Coverage | Palm coating, extended coating or fully enclosed construction | The covered area must match the actual contact. An exposed back remains exposed, even if the palm has a thick coating. |
| Thickness and construction | Thinner or thicker versions with their respective performance data | More material does not automatically mean better quality. Compare the required protection alongside the ability to handle small parts. |
| Type of use | Explicitly intended for single or repeated use | A fully enclosed design is not automatically reusable. Replacement and, where applicable, cleaning depend on the instructions for that version. |
A glove may be described as suitable for handling an oily workpiece without covering every liquid workplace substance or every contact duration. Identify the actual oil or mixture used when choosing. If chemical protection is required, you need appropriate resistance data; formulations from different manufacturers can react differently despite sharing the name “nitrile”.
Suppose the risk assessment requires protection against a named oil and the entire hand gets wet while moving the parts. A model with an exposed textile back is unsuitable for this contact requirement. For a fully enclosed alternative, you still need the concentration, temperature and intended contact duration to check against the manufacturer's data. Only once these match should you compare whether you can hold the small part securely and put it down accurately. A thinner version remains an option only if its documented performance is also sufficient.
The tested breakthrough time cannot be used directly as a wearing time. Plan replacement intervals according to the manufacturer's instructions and actual conditions of use. Wiping down a glove intended for single use does not make it reusable. The constructions described here are comparison criteria; what matters is the specific version offered and documented.
