Rain jackets & Raincoats

When choosing rain jackets and raincoats, the product type alone is not enough to assess weather protection. Compare the properties explicitly stated for the specific model, taking into account the duration of use, severity of the weather and intensity of movement you expect.

Read the weather protection details

Check the manufacturer's information on the outer material, seams, fastenings and hood. “Water-repellent” and “waterproof” are not interchangeable terms; a single material rating does not automatically describe the performance of the complete garment either. For occupational protection requirements, the applicable rules and documented markings are decisive.

Choose a size to fit over your layers

  • Measure or try on with the thickest layer you plan to wear underneath.
  • Reach forwards and raise your arms; the shoulders and sleeves should allow the movement.
  • Adjust the hood with your usual headwear.
  • Fasten the hem and cuffs and check how easily they can be adjusted.

Choose a jacket or coat by length

A jacket has a shorter hem and generally allows freer movement of the legs and hips; check how it overlaps with waterproof trousers. A raincoat's longer hem covers more of the hips and thighs. Compare coat length and hem width while walking, bending and climbing stairs so that the extra coverage does not unnecessarily restrict movement.

Consider ventilation and care

Movement also creates moisture inside the garment. Compare any ventilation openings and the specific material information without assuming general breathability. Follow the care instructions for the chosen model, as washing and care methods depend on its construction and treatments.

Choose rainwear as a complete outfit

A jacket or coat should suit the duration of use, your movements and the layers worn underneath. Our guide to choosing waterproof workwear helps you check the upper garment, trousers, overlaps and any required high-visibility performance together.
