High-visibility shirts

A high-visibility shirt often becomes the outer layer as soon as a jacket is removed. Assess it as a separate wearing configuration. What matters is the stated visibility class in your required size and intended combination, rather than the highest rating anywhere in the size range.

Consider size and visible surface area

Question Why it matters Buying rule
Does the same class apply to all sizes? Smaller sizes of some designs may have a different classification. Compare the class of the size that actually fits.
Will the shirt be worn over or tucked into the trousers? Tucking it in may conceal part of the high-visibility area. Base your choice only on the manufacturer's intended way of wearing it.
Will the outer jacket be removed during work? What remains visible afterwards is what counts. Choose the shirt and trousers together to suit this configuration from the outset.

Put this into practice

Example: the task requires Class 3. A shirt carries that rating in size L, but only Class 2 in size S, which is the size that fits you. Choosing the larger, ill-fitting size is not a solution. Choose a properly fitting design with a sufficient rating or an explicitly documented combination with high-visibility trousers.

A description such as summer or performance shirt does not replace evidence of UV protection or other protective functions. Choose the cut and material for your wearing conditions only from designs that provide the required visibility.
