Barrier tapes

Barrier tape visibly marks a boundary. First decide where the tape will run and how it will be secured. A visible line is not the same as a physical barrier that keeps people out.

Calculate how much tape you need from the planned route

Draw the planned sections and measure their lengths. Allow extra tape at the ends for the intended fixing method. If there are several separate sections, plan each fixing point individually; the perimeter of an area does not automatically equal the tape length required. Then compare roll length, width and the environments explicitly specified for use.

Example: marking three sides of a work area

One side remains open as the planned access point. Measure the other three sections and establish how the tape will be secured at each end. If the area also needs a physical barrier, plan this separately; a longer roll of tape does not replace it.

Fall hazards require a separate protection plan. ABS Safety explains why barrier tape must not be used in the roof barrier arrangement described.
