Work gloves with latex

Latex is an elastic glove material that can form a coating or the main part of a glove. Start with two questions: do you tolerate the complete material mix, and does the covered area provide enough coverage for your contact with the workpiece?

Consider known sensitivities first

Natural latex contains proteins that can cause allergies. Allergies to additives in gloves can also occur. If you have a known natural latex allergy, choose from gloves explicitly stated to be free from natural latex; if you have another known contact allergy, the relevant additive must be excluded. Clarify the materials with the manufacturer and, if necessary, your occupational health doctor. “Nitrile” alone does not guarantee the absence of every additive to which you may be sensitive.

Choose coverage to match the contact

Situation Selection decision
Dry contact on fingers and palm A version coated in these areas can be considered if it provides the required protection. Latex content alone does not determine fit.
Liquid also reaches the back of the hand or wrist An exposed textile back does not meet this protection requirement. Look for a suitable fully enclosed design of sufficient length.
Contact with a specific cleaning product or workplace substance Even with a fully enclosed design, choose only on the basis of resistance data for the substance, concentration and conditions of use.

Example: taking damp components out of a box

During the first movement, only your palm touches the part. As you reach deeper, however, the back of your hand brushes against other damp parts. If your hand needs protection from this liquid, a palm-only coating is not enough. Also identify the liquid: water, cleaning products and other workplace substances require different selections. Only sufficient coverage and suitable manufacturer data make a design a candidate. The word “latex” alone does not.

Then compare the fit during the intended gripping movement. If material extends beyond the fingertips or the glove pulls tight as you close your hand, the design is not yet suitable for this handling task; check another size or construction within the suitable range.
