Description

Use this 15 m water level to transfer a reference height between two points, including around corners and without a direct line of sight. Water in the connected hose creates a shared reference level. Two transparent 220 mm measuring tubes, each with a 150 mm scale, make readings easier. No batteries or electricity are required.

Hydrostatic measuring principle

When at rest, both open water surfaces settle at the same horizontal level. This height can be marked at the reference point and the target point. Hold the measuring tubes vertically, wait for the water to equalise and always read at the same point on the water surface.

Dimensions and handling

The hose is 15 m long and has a 10 mm diameter. The transparent measuring tubes are each 220 mm long and scaled over 150 mm on both sides. Operation by two people is recommended.

Technical specifications

  • Measuring principle: Hydrostatic levelling based on the principle of communicating vessels
  • Hose length: 15 m
  • Hose diameter: 10 mm
  • Measuring tubes: 220 mm long, transparent
  • Scale: 150 mm, both sides
  • Operation: Without electricity or batteries
  • Applications: Foundation work, patio construction, screed levelling, laying masonry and gardening

Frequently asked questions

How do I transfer a known height?

Fill the hose with water without air bubbles and hold both measuring tubes open and vertically. Align the still water level in the first tube with the reference mark. The water level in the second tube then shows the same height at the target point.

Why are the water levels not producing a stable result?

Air bubbles, kinks, closed tube ends or water that is still flowing can affect the reading. Open both ends, remove the air and wait for the water to equalise. Also avoid significant temperature differences between sections of the hose.

Can I use the water level on my own?

This is possible with suitable holders. Working in pairs is usually easier: one person holds the reference tube while the other marks the target point. When repositioning the tubes, prevent water from running out of either tube.

How far can I work with a 15 m hose?

The usable distance is less than the hose length if the route goes around obstacles or hose is needed for the vertical ends. Plan the actual route of the hose. Longer distances can be transferred using carefully positioned intermediate marks.

When is a water level practical compared with a laser?

It needs no direct line of sight between the measuring points and no electricity. This is useful when transferring a height around corners or between rooms. This alone does not establish universally higher accuracy than a laser.
