When choosing IBC accessories, the exact connection on the container is essential. Compare the thread or connection type and both ends of an adapter before adding a tap, hose or further pipework.

Identify the container connection precisely

Measure the connection on the IBC and check its exact designation. An approximate size is not sufficient for threads. Compare the specified container connection with the inlet end of the accessory; adapters must always be assessed at both ends.

Plan the connection to the point of use

Next, decide whether you want to connect a tap, a hose or further pipework. Check the outlet end and the seals required. The product information must explicitly confirm whether the accessory is suitable for the medium in the container.

  • Exact container connection type
  • Connection end for the hose or tap
  • Suitability for the intended medium

Turn the outlet details into a connection list

Record the container manufacturer and model, and photograph the markings on the outlet. Alongside these, note the full specification of the accessory's inlet and the outlet you need. An adapter with a threaded outlet may still require a suitable hose connector; a hose tail must match the hose size. Check both ends before selecting additional parts.

If several versions are suitable, also compare ease of operation and space requirements. A tap must remain accessible in its intended location. Consider where the connecting line will run and how the connection can be inspected later. A container's capacity in litres or an approximate inch size does not provide sufficient evidence of compatibility. If the markings are unclear, consult the container manufacturer's documentation.
