Portable and fixed clamping
| Requirement | How to choose | What to measure |
|---|---|---|
| Holding components together | Choose a clamp by opening capacity and throat depth | Overall dimension plus the distance from the clamping point to the edge |
| Repeatedly holding a workpiece in place | Compare vices and their intended mounting arrangements | Mounting surface, jaw opening, clear working space |
| Long component | Plan several clamping points | Distance between supports and clear working area |
Example: gluing two long strips together
Mark the required pressure points along the strips. Several well-spaced clamps may suit the task better than a single clamp with a large opening capacity. For delicate surfaces, use the protective pads intended for the model.
