Description

Use the Bradas splitting wedge to widen an existing split in thick or twisted pieces of wood. The wedge-shaped steel profile forces the wood fibres apart as it is driven in. Choose between 1,500 g, 2,000 g and 2,500 g. This steel wedge requires a suitable striking tool with a hardwood or plastic striking face.

Convert impact force into spreading force

As it is driven in, the wedge-shaped profile widens the existing split and forces the wood fibres apart. With very thick or tough logs, several wedges can be used one after another or offset from each other. The tool has no handle and must therefore always be used with a separate striking tool.

Versions for different wood thicknesses

The 1,500 g version is suitable for medium-sized logs and moderately thick wood. The 2,000 g version is the versatile mid-range option, while the 2,500 g version is intended for particularly large or tough pieces of wood. Each wedge is selected separately.

Frequently asked questions

How is the splitting wedge used?

Position the wedge at a suitable splitting point in securely supported wood. Drive it in with a hardwood or plastic hammer intended for steel wedges. Do not strike the steel wedge directly with a steel hammer or the back of an axe.

Which weight class is suitable?

The 1,500 g version is intended for medium-sized logs, 2,000 g is the versatile option and 2,500 g is for particularly thick or tough pieces of wood.

What can I do if the wedge gets stuck?

With tough wood, a second wedge at an adjacent point can help to widen the split further.

May I drive in the steel wedge with the back of an axe?

No. Steel striking steel can cause dangerous fragments to break off. Use a striking tool with a hardwood or plastic striking face that is suitable for steel wedges, and follow its instructions.

Is the steel wedge maintenance-free?

No. Before use, check for cracks, chips and raised burrs. Do not continue using a damaged or mushroomed wedge; repairs must follow the manufacturer's instructions.
