Description

For work in cold conditions, the Portwest A146 Arctic gloves combine a double-layer polyester/acrylic lining with a crinkle nitrile coating. The coating covers approximately three quarters of the glove. The partly uncoated back allows air circulation; the seamless knitted construction is low-lint.

Lining and grippy coating

The double-layer lining insulates the hands against cold. The crinkle nitrile surface helps with gripping dry and wet objects. The gloves are made from polyester, acrylic, rubber and nitrile and are available in M, L, XL and 2XL, in yellow and black.

Cold protection and mechanical performance

EN 511 with X2X indicates contact cold level 2. EN 388 with 4242X describes the mechanical test performance. These markings do not specify a general minimum operating temperature or unrestricted cut resistance.

Understanding contact heat protection

EN 407 with X2XXXX includes contact heat level 2. The associated test is carried out at 250 °C with a threshold time of at least 15 seconds. This does not establish a generally safe contact time at work. Selection must take account of the specific hazard and the instructions for use.

Frequently asked questions

Are the winter gloves waterproof?

No. The back of the hand is partly uncoated; the gloves are not designed for permanent immersion or as waterproof gloves.

Can I hold parts at 250 °C for 15 seconds while wearing them?

The figures describe the standardised contact heat test, not a guaranteed safe holding time. Surface, pressure, moisture and glove condition affect the load. Follow the instructions for use and the workplace risk assessment.

What does X2X mean under EN 511?

The middle digit 2 indicates the contact cold performance. X means that no performance level is stated for the respective other test. A fixed operating limit in minus degrees cannot be derived from this.

What do 15 Gauge and low-lint mean?

15 Gauge describes the fineness of the knitted construction. The low-lint version releases fewer fibres, but is not automatically certified for cleanroom use.
