Description

The Oregon aluminium Sappie helps with gripping, pulling and turning roundwood and logs. Its aluminium handle is lightweight. The steel spike is used to grip timber. The tool is available in 500 mm and 700 mm versions.

Choose the right length

The 500 mm version is more compact and suitable for one-handed work with logs. The 700 mm version offers greater reach and leverage for larger pieces of timber.

Steel spike for timber work

The steel spike grips the timber so pieces can be pulled or turned. Notches on the spike support grip even on frozen timber. Check that the spike is secure before each movement and keep your feet outside the movement path.

Handle and handling

The aluminium handle is ergonomic and has a non-slip finish. The end stop helps prevent the hand from slipping off.

Frequently asked questions

When should I choose 500 rather than 700 mm?

The 500 mm version is handy for shorter distances and moving logs. The 700 mm version provides greater reach. The longer version does not automatically permit heavier loads.

Can I split firewood with it?

A timber hook is for gripping, pulling and turning. Use a suitable splitting maul, splitting axe or log splitter for splitting.

Can I lift a whole trunk freely with the timber hook?

The tool is for manually moving suitable pieces of timber and is not lifting or slinging equipment. Move larger trunks with suitable equipment and secure them against unintended rolling.

What should I check before using it on frozen timber?

Check the spike and handle for damage. The notched spike must grip sufficiently before pulling. Smooth bark, ice and the position of the timber can affect grip.

How do I sharpen a blunt spike?

Carefully rework the steel spike with a suitable file or whetstone while retaining its shape. Have damaged or bent parts checked before further use.
