Pressure sprayers

Choose a pressure sprayer first according to the medium it is explicitly approved for. Capacity, carrying method and nozzle come next; a container that sprays water is not automatically suitable for cleaning agents or plant protection products.

Match the design to the application

Check What to establish Why
Medium Explicit approval for the liquid and concentration The container, hose and seals may have different levels of resistance
Working quantity Determine the required amount with a water trial Preparing too much creates avoidable leftovers and weight
Carrying method Handheld, shoulder-carried or backpack, and total weight when filled Determines reach, breaks and controlled handling
Spray pattern Area, targeting accuracy and adjustable or fixed nozzle Helps avoid drift and unnecessary wetting
Cleaning Ease of disassembly, rinsing instructions and spare parts Prevents deposits and problematic mixing

Test with water before first use

  1. Assemble the container, hose, valve and nozzle according to the instructions.
  2. Fill with water only and check for leaks at the intended working pressure.
  3. Check the spray pattern and actual quantity required over a defined area.
  4. Adjust the nozzle and carrying strap so you can reach the target in a controlled manner.
  5. After releasing the pressure, practise cleaning and emptying the sprayer.

Additional rules apply to plant protection products

Private users may only use products approved for home gardens and allotments. The instructions, approved application, dosage and protective measures must be followed. The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment's guidance on safe use in home gardens and allotments recommends, among other things, preparing only the amount required, working in low wind, avoiding spray mist and drift, and keeping children and pets away. Both the equipment and the product must be suitable for the application.

There is no blanket approval covering water, fertilisers, cleaning agents and other liquids. Use separate, clearly labelled equipment unless the instructions explicitly permit use with different products. Fully release the pressure according to the manufacturer's instructions before opening, cleaning or storing.
