Choose protection types by exposure · Plan disposable equipment and replacement
Choose the type first, then a one-piece garment that fits
- Type-5 certification covers airborne solid particles; it does not establish suitability for liquids. Type 6 indicates limited protection against liquid chemicals. Determine the required protection before comparing sizes.
- Use the body measurements required by the specific size chart, particularly height and chest circumference. A suitable chest width alone may leave insufficient length if your height falls outside the intended range.
- Check the closed coveralls with the intended clothing underneath and other PPE. Reaching and bending must not pull fastenings or interfaces apart.
Selection example
Coveralls suitable for the task fit your upper body but pull between the crotch and shoulders when you bend. In this case, a suitable chest width alone is not enough. Compare the size and cut specifications for your height and check a suitable alternative design. Simply leaving the front fastening open is not a solution to poor fit.
The hood, glove and footwear interfaces, and respiratory protection where applicable, must be combined according to their respective instructions for use. Tape or a larger size does not automatically create a documented combination. Changing and removing coveralls are part of the work process; used coveralls must not be reused simply because they look clean.
