Description

Preparing the soil and laying the sheet

Remove existing weeds and their roots and level the area. Align the sheet and secure it with suitable ground anchors. Allow sufficient overlap between adjacent sheets so that no open strips remain.

Creating planting openings

Make cross-shaped openings at the intended planting points and open them only as far as necessary for the plant. The longitudinal stripes help maintain even spacing. For narrow beds and borders, the 60 cm-wide sheet can be laid directly.

Using it under mulch or gravel

A covering of mulch, gravel or wood chippings can be added. The material is UV-resistant. Check the area after laying: new weeds may later germinate in a covering layer.

Frequently asked questions

Can I simply lay the sheet over existing weeds?

Clear the soil of weeds and, where possible, all root remains first. Persistent root weeds such as ground elder or couch grass may otherwise continue to grow.

What should I do with a bed wider than 60 cm?

Lay and secure several sheets with overlapping edges. Allow for the overlap when calculating the required quantity.

Do I need to remove the membrane when watering?

No. Water can pass through the sheet into the soil. Nevertheless, check that the plants receive enough water and that no dry areas develop.

Why does weed later grow on the mulch?

Wind-blown seeds can germinate above the sheet in mulch or accumulated soil. Remove these seedlings early; ground cover does not prevent such deposits.
