For sorting small, non-hazardous sample parts, you have a choice of a 13-gauge and an 18-gauge glove with the other required properties. The finer construction is a sensible candidate for a handling comparison. If its coating or finger length still gets in the way, the higher gauge does not automatically win; choose the version that handles well and fits.
If protection against an additional hazard such as sharp edges or contact with substances is required, establish this before comparing comfort. Cotton names a fibre, while knitted describes a construction: they are therefore not equivalent alternatives when comparing materials.
