Cutting discs

A cutting disc is selected for a specific material and a compatible machine. Note the material, machine model, intended disc size and mounting. The permitted operating specifications must also match; the correct diameter alone is not enough.

Plan the cut first, then the finishing work

  • Cutting through a workpiece: Compare only discs explicitly suitable for the material and intended machine.
  • Finishing the cut surface: Choose a tool specifically rated for this work. Approval for cutting alone does not automatically permit grinding with the side of the disc.
  • Replacing a disc: Use the full machine and disc specifications. Do not choose a replacement just because its colour or visible size looks similar.

Example: cutting a section to length and finishing the surface

Cutting to length and subsequently working on a surface are two separate tasks. Choosing a disc for the cut should therefore not end with the assumption that the same disc can handle all finishing work. For the second step, compare the appropriate tool and its approved machine compatibility separately.

Klingspor explains cutting disc selection and loading. The manufacturer's specifications for the specific discs and machines remain authoritative. Explore further: Cutting tools and saws and Grinding and polishing supplies.
