½″ or ¾″?
½″ is easy to handle for short distances and individual beds. For longer distances or higher water demand, consider ¾″; the larger bore reduces pressure loss.

Measure the route from the tap to the furthest garden bed, allowing for bends. A little extra length makes the job easier; unnecessary metres make the hose heavier.

Measure the available space and choose containers according to usable planting space and drainage. Then sketch the water source and the route to each planter. For a few easily accessible containers, a watering can may be the quicker option; for a planned supply line, open the irrigation category and check the connections and outlets. The result is two separate shopping lists for containers and the water supply route.
Assign each task to the category that addresses it, and note dimensions or connections alongside it. This lets you see before buying whether, for example, the container, bracket and irrigation route have been planned together. For balcony containers and drip systems, the guide Planning balcony irrigation takes you from the container layout through to a trial run.
