Welding gloves

Welding gloves are selected according to the welding task, exposure and dexterity required. A leather glove or a single heat rating is not enough. For appropriately marked versions, the distinction between types A and B under EN 12477 helps guide your choice.

Consider the type and handling together

  • Type A requires higher minimum performance than type B in several mechanical and thermal tests. It is an option to compare for welding tasks involving correspondingly greater exposure.
  • Type B has higher dexterity requirements. This is particularly relevant for TIG work requiring precise control; it is not a blanket approval for every TIG situation.
  • The types are not a simple ranking: not every individual test value is higher for A. Versions marked with both types are also possible. Documented suitability for the intended use is what matters.

Selection example

You need to feed a filler rod precisely during TIG welding. A type B version suitable for the protection required is a sensible option to compare. However, if overly long fingers or thick folds prevent controlled handling of the rod, it still does not fit the task. When switching to work that produces more spatter, reassess the protection needed.

The glove cuff and sleeve must provide the required coverage together. Compare handling without welding in progress. EN 12477 does not allow unlimited contact with hot parts or identify a glove suitable for live electrical work.
