PU-coated work gloves

PU stands for polyurethane and refers here to the coating on a glove liner. For precise handling, what matters is where the coating sits and how the liner fits around the fingers and palm. A PU label alone establishes neither cut protection nor a barrier against liquids.

Match the coating area to workpiece contact

Contact during work How to narrow down your choice
Small parts are held only between the fingertips A fingertip coating intended for this contact can be considered. Whether it is sufficient also depends on the protection required.
The part rests in the palm while being turned A fingertip-only coating does not cover the required gripping area. Compare a version with a suitable palm coating.
The part touches the sides of the fingers or the back of the hand Check the actual extent of the coating; the brief description “palm” does not specify every edge area.
Liquid needs to be kept away from the hand PU or a visible coating does not establish liquid-tightness. A separate, documented protection requirement is the deciding factor.

Example: picking up a screw and turning a housing

Only your fingertips touch a small screw when you pick it up. When you then turn the housing, however, it rests in your palm. If you need a coated contact surface for both movements, a fingertip-only design is ruled out. A palm coating better matches the area described, but its protection specifications and fit must also be suitable before you buy.

Choose the right size for precise gripping

Compare the gripping movement using a clean, harmless sample part. If excess fingertip material gets between the part and your finger, try another size or finger shape. If the liner pulls tight when you close your hand, the fit is also unsuitable. The thinnest version is the best choice only if it also delivers the required performance and handling.
