Work gloves by material & coating

The liner forms the glove, while the coating covers specific areas. Both affect handling; verified protective performance applies to the complete model. Start with the task and type of contact, then compare material, coverage and fit.

Nitrile: compare designs · Latex: construction and skin compatibility · PU: choose coating coverage

Which question comes first for your work?

Your task Next decision Where to start
Gripping small, dry parts precisely Is contact limited to the fingertips, or does it include the palm? Compare coating coverage and fit accordingly. PU coating and liner construction
Handling oily parts Distinguish grip security from resistance to the specific liquid used. Nitrile designs and specified conditions of use
Excluding a material because of sensitivity The full material specification must exclude the material known to cause a reaction; the coating name alone is not enough. Latex and material blends
Handling sharp edges The mechanical test results required for the task are decisive, followed by coverage and flexibility. Documented cut protection performance

Two markings, two different questions

EN 388 describes tests against mechanical risks, including abrasion and cutting. EN ISO 374-1 covers protection against hazardous chemicals. A mechanical performance rating therefore does not answer questions about resistance to a cleaning agent. For this, you need data for the specific substance and intended contact conditions; even a fully coated surface is not sufficient evidence on its own.

Example: assembly becomes a cleaning task

During dry assembly, the workpiece touches only the fingers and palm. Among models with the required mechanical performance, you can choose the appropriate contact coverage. If cleaning is added later and the cleaning agent also wets the back of the hand, a palm-coated design with an uncoated textile back is unsuitable for this protection need. A replacement needs suitable coverage and documented resistance to that exact cleaning agent. The previous material choice cannot simply be carried over.

Material names help narrow down the options

Nitrile and latex can form a coating or a continuous glove. PU refers here to the coating, cotton may form the liner or an inner layer, and Kevlar may be part of the fibre construction. Compare information on the same basis: liner with liner, coating coverage with coating coverage, and test ratings from the same type of test.
